Cat Care Tips for A Bangalore Summer

Summer is here and although the rains have managed to bring down the temperatures a bit it still looks like it’s going to be a hot summer. So let’s take a look at some cat care tips to survive this summer and thrive in it. Even though cats are much better equipped than dogs to deal with the summer heat a little help from you will ensure that your cat stays safe and healthy.

Heat Exhaustion/Heat Stroke in Cats: Warning Signs

Excessive grooming

Restlessness

Heavy sweating through paws

Rapid breathing

Red mouth and tongue

Lethargy

Stumbling

Vomiting

Heat stroke is dangerous. Hence it is important that you contact your vet as soon as you notice any distressing symptoms. Read more about heat exhaustion and heat stroke in cats on PetMD and Pet Health Network.

Cat Care Tips: Keeping Your Cat Cool This Summer

Care Tip 1: Provide Shade

Provide shaded areas in your garden, terrace or balcony that your cat likes to hang out in.

Care Tip 2: Provide Water Sources

Having water sources readily available is an easy way to ensure your cat stays hydrated.
It’s extremely important to make sure your cat stays hydrated in the summer months. Make sure you leave enough of water lying around in bowls, topped up, in areas that your cat hangs out in. Make sure the water is fresh and cool.

Care Tip 3: Frozen Water bottles

Photo courtesy: Colin Behrens from Pixabay

Pop some water bottles into your freezer. When frozen, wrap these bottles in towels and place them in places where your cat sits (or rather lounges!). Make sure the bottles don’t leak. This will ensure your cat has a cool place to lie in.

Care Tip 4: Ventilation

Make sure the fans are on when your cat is indoors. Keep windows open. Have screen fitted so there’s air circulation without the fear of your cat escaping out.

Care Tip 5: Sunscreen

Cats get sun burnt. If you have a cat who loves the outdoors it might be good to get a cat safe sunscreen. Speak to your vet about what sunscreen would be best suitable for your cat.
Care Tip 6: Cat Grooming

It’s important that you brush your cat regularly. Summer is a time for a spurt in shedding in some cat breeds. You will minimise the occurrence of hairballs as well as help keep your cat’s coat light.

You can also visit a professional pet groomer who can give your cat a professional grooming session. Any issues your cat may have can get flagged soon. This helps keep your cat safe and healthy.

Do take a look at some of the cat grooming packages that Pawpad offers. You can call 9663077496 to book your appointments. Pawpad offers cat exclusive grooming days to ensure minimal stress to your loved one.

Here’s a lovely video that sums it all up! To A Lovely Summer!!
